Description
Quick, kid-friendly, and fuss-free pepperoni pizza pinwheels made with simple ingredients. Perfect for lunchboxes, snacks, or quick dinners.
Ingredients
- 1 package refrigerated crescent roll dough (about 8 oz / 227g)
- About 20 pepperoni slices (60g)
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (100g)
- 1/4 cup pizza sauce (60ml)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (15ml)
- 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning (optional)
- 2 tablespoons Parmesan cheese (10g, optional)
- Optional add-ins: chopped bell peppers, olives, red pepper flakes, fresh basil or parsley
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Unroll crescent roll dough onto a clean surface and press perforations together to form one solid rectangle. Optionally, use a rolling pin to even out the dough.
- Spread a thin, even layer of pizza sauce over the dough, leaving a 1/2-inch border around edges. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the sauce, then layer pepperoni slices in a single layer.
- Roll the dough tightly from one long edge into a log. Slice the log into 1-inch (2.5 cm) pinwheels using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, yielding about 12-14 pinwheels.
- Place pinwheels on a parchment-lined baking sheet spaced about 1 inch apart. Brush tops lightly with olive oil and sprinkle with dried Italian seasoning and Parmesan cheese.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until pinwheels are puffed and golden brown, cheese is melted and bubbly, and edges are crisp. Start checking at 12 minutes to avoid burning.
- Let pinwheels cool for a few minutes before serving. Best served warm but hold up well at room temperature.
Notes
Do not overload the sauce to avoid sogginess. Press perforations in dough firmly before rolling. Use a sharp knife for clean slices. Brush with olive oil for a golden crust. Pinwheels can be made ahead and refrigerated for up to 24 hours before baking. Freeze unbaked pinwheels on a baking sheet, then transfer to freezer bag. Reheat leftovers in oven at 350°F for 8-10 minutes to keep crispy.
