Description
A quick and easy homemade iced caramel latte made with simple ingredients and a microwave-friendly salted caramel sauce. This comforting drink allows you to control the sweetness and costs significantly less than cafe versions.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups strong brewed coffee, cold
- 1 cup milk of choice (whole, oat, almond, or coconut)
- 1/2 cup heavy cream or half-and-half
- 3–4 tablespoons homemade salted caramel sauce
- 1 cup ice cubes (or coffee ice cubes)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of sea salt
Instructions
- In a microwave-safe bowl, combine 1/4 cup butter, 1/2 cup brown sugar, and 1/4 cup heavy cream.
- Microwave on high for 1 minute, stir well, then microwave for another 30-45 seconds until smooth and glossy.
- Stir in 1/2 teaspoon salt and let cool for 2 minutes to thicken.
- Brew coffee strong and let it cool to room temperature, then refrigerate until cold.
- Add 3-4 tablespoons of the salted caramel sauce to the bottom of a glass or mug and stir to coat.
- Fill the glass with ice cubes.
- Pour the cold coffee over the ice, leaving about an inch of space at the top.
- Pour in the milk and heavy cream (or half-and-half). Froth the milk separately if desired for a foam layer.
- Drizzle extra caramel sauce on top and sprinkle with flaky sea salt.
- Serve immediately with a straw.
Notes
For best results, brew coffee strong as ice and milk will dilute it. You can freeze leftover coffee into ice cubes to prevent watering down the drink. The homemade caramel sauce keeps in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Do not store the assembled drink as the ice will melt.
