Crispy Smashed Brussels Sprouts with Hot Honey

  • Author: SALY
  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

These crispy smashed Brussels sprouts are tossed in olive oil and air-fried or roasted until golden, then drizzled with a sweet and spicy hot honey glaze for an addictive side dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 pounds Brussels sprouts
  • 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • Generous crack of black pepper
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon chili flakes
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Trim the ends off the Brussels sprouts and discard any loose or wilted leaves. Pat them dry thoroughly with a paper towel.
  2. Place a sprout on a cutting board and press down firmly with a heavy glass or muddler to flatten it to about half its original thickness. Repeat with all sprouts.
  3. Place smashed sprouts in a large bowl. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Toss until evenly coated.
  4. Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C) or oven to 400°F (200°C).
  5. Arrange sprouts in a single layer, cut-side down, in the air fryer basket or on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  6. Cook for 12-15 minutes in the air fryer or 20-25 minutes in the oven, flipping halfway through, until edges are dark brown and crispy.
  7. While sprouts cook, combine honey, chili flakes, apple cider vinegar, minced garlic, and butter in a small bowl. Microwave for 30 seconds or heat in a saucepan until melted and combined.
  8. Transfer hot sprouts to a serving bowl and drizzle with the hot honey glaze. Toss gently to coat and serve immediately.

Notes

Ensure sprouts are dry before oiling to maximize crispiness. Place smashed side down during cooking. Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket. The glaze should be applied while sprouts are hot to ensure it sticks properly.
