Description
A rich, moist chocolate cake soaked in a salty-sweet peanut butter mixture and topped with a glossy chocolate fudge drizzle. This easy dessert uses simple ingredients and delivers the taste of peanut butter cups in cake form.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 box (15.25 oz) Yellow or White Cake Mix
- 1 box (15.25 oz) Chocolate Fudge Cake Mix
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter (Jif or Skippy)
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Optional: Crushed Reese’s Pieces or mini peanut butter cups for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan with butter or non-stick spray.
- In a large bowl, combine both cake mixes, eggs, water, oil, and vanilla extract. Mix on medium speed for 2 minutes until smooth.
- Pour batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- While the cake bakes, prepare the peanut butter soak by whisking together the peanut butter, heavy cream, and milk in a medium bowl until smooth and pourable.
- Remove the cake from the oven and place it on a cooling rack. Immediately poke holes all over the cake with a chopstick or wooden spoon, spacing them about 1 inch apart.
- Slowly pour the peanut butter mixture over the hot cake, allowing it to seep into the holes. Use a spatula to spread it evenly.
- Let the cake cool completely in the pan (at least 1 hour, preferably 2).
- Once the cake is cool, make the drizzle by combining chocolate chips and butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir constantly until melted and smooth.
- Pour the chocolate drizzle over the cooled cake and spread to the edges.
- Garnish with crushed Reese’s Pieces if desired. Cut into squares and serve chilled.
Notes
Use creamy, processed peanut butter only; natural peanut butter will separate and make the soak oily. Poke holes deep into the cake to ensure the soak penetrates. Do not drizzle chocolate on a warm cake, or it will melt into the cake. The cake tastes better the next day as flavors meld.
