Description
A fancy yet simple appetizer featuring crispy flatbread topped with sweet fig jam, tangy goat cheese, salty prosciutto, and a drizzle of spicy hot honey, finished with fresh arugula.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound flatbread dough (store-bought or homemade)
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- ½ cup fig jam or preserves
- 4 ounces goat cheese (chèvre), crumbled
- 1 cup low-moisture mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 3–4 ounces prosciutto di Parma, thinly sliced
- ¼ cup hot honey
- 2 cups fresh arugula
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
- Pinch of sea salt flakes
- Lemon juice (for tossing arugula)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). If using a baking sheet, place it in the oven to preheat.
- Roll out the flatbread dough on a lightly floured surface to about ¼ inch thickness.
- Transfer dough to the baking sheet or parchment paper. Brush lightly with olive oil to create a barrier against moisture.
- Spread the fig jam evenly over the dough, leaving a ½-inch border for the crust.
- Scatter the crumbled goat cheese and shredded mozzarella over the jam.
- Lay the prosciutto slices over the cheese.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
- While baking, warm the hot honey in a small saucepan over low heat or microwave for 15 seconds.
- Remove flatbread from oven and immediately drizzle with warm hot honey.
- Sprinkle with fresh thyme leaves and sea salt flakes.
- Let cool for 2 minutes, then top with arugula tossed with lemon juice and olive oil.
- Cut into slices and serve immediately.
Notes
Do not microwave the flatbread when reheating as it will become chewy; use an oven or toaster oven instead. Ensure you brush the dough with olive oil before adding jam to prevent sogginess. Use low-moisture mozzarella to avoid a wet crust. Add arugula only after baking to keep it fresh and peppery.
